Decor Trends for 2017

Dec 19th 2016 Staff

It seems that every time the calendar changes to a new year, new styles and trends seem to appear out of nowhere. While it can seem like that to a consumer, those who keep a close eye on lighting and interior design won’t be surprised at what’s popular and what’s not. At Hortons Home Lighting in La Grange, we’re always excited to see what the new trends will be, and 2017 doesn’t look like it will be a year that will disappoint. Lighting manufacturers are always coming up with something new (and sometimes daring), but in this blog, we’re going to look at a few decor trends that should pick up steam in the New Year.

Geometric Designs

You may have seen light fixtures with geometric shapes, and while you thought they were interesting, you never thought about how they would look in your home. While you may not be adding new lights to your living room or bedroom, geometric-inspired designs will be a popular trend in 2017. Polygonal shapes and textures will dominate throw pillows, blankets, and artwork, and even having just one accent piece can add the right amount of appeal to a room. We’re looking forward to the objects and options that we’ll be able to offer as designers and makers begin producing new products.

Nature-Inspired Pieces

For a few years now, people have been fascinated with bringing the outdoors inside their home. Natural-looking end tables and coffee tables can be found in homes across the country, and the more natural-looking, the better. Tables made of wood burls, lamps with leaf-inspired shades, and even light fixtures with branches are very popular home design options. This trend will continue in the new year, and integrating such options into your home may finally help you complete that redecorating you’ve been attempting to finish for some time now.

Jewel Tones

The time of neutral tones and gray walls may not quite be over, and some homeowners will still prefer them. However, design experts are predicting that sapphire blue, emerald green, amethyst purple, and other jewel tones will be fashionable in 2017. You may not want to paint an entire wall in a jewel tone, but accents such as pillows, blankets, and ornamental pieces can provide a pop of color that an otherwise drab room may need. If you are interested in painting an accent wall in a jewel color, be sure to consider the rest of the decor in the room, and how the new hue will affect the space’s appeal and comfort.
