Holiday Home Updates

Oct 26th 2017 Staff

Thanksgiving turkey, Christmas tree lighting, and New Year’s countdowns are all fast approaching. These holidays bring colder weather, gift giving and festive parties, but is your home ready to accommodate the celebrations? Here are some simple home updates to make before the doorbell chimes to announce guests arriving.

One easy way to get your home ready for the holidays is with some comprehensive organization. Organize the kitchen counters by arranging the coffee pot, sugar, and mugs into one area allowing house guests to help themselves. Group the microwave, toaster, and bakery goods in another section of your counter as well. In the living room, throw kids’ toys in their own distinct cubby or box, store any unused blankets and toss the stack of magazines that have been piling up since last year.

If you have carpet in your bedrooms and/or living room, schedule a professional carpet cleaning to get your home feeling fresh and ready to wow your coming holiday guests.

In the dining room, an effortless update that you can do is sprucing up your table décor. For each individual holiday, express the joyous occasion with decorations for the occasion. During thanksgiving, incorporate colorful leaf print place mats, dark orange cloth napkins, and a cornucopia center piece. Similarly, Christmas can be pulled together with red place mats, green cloth napkins, and a Christmas tree or snowman center piece. New Year’s can also have its own custom decorations. Grab some gold place mats, black cloth napkins, and a fun flower arrangement made with sparkly pom poms and party horns.

Lastly, don’t forget the bathroom! The bathroom is the one gathering place that is frequented most but often given the least attention. Brighten your bathroom with a festive hand towel, seasonal candle, and an update to the old light fixture that is currently giving your space a murky yellow glow.
