Beyond helping our customers choose the perfect interior light fixtures and durable exterior light fixtures for their homes, giving back to the neighborhoods we serve remains at the heart of our mission.
Our primary philanthropic partner is The H Foundation, a local nonprofit committed to funding basic science cancer research at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University. Hortons allocates a major portion of our annual charitable resources, time, and team effort to this foundation to help drive critical breakthroughs.
Alongside this core partnership, we frequently support local schools, civic groups, and regional nonprofits through charitable giving. However, because a significant portion of our funding goes directly to cancer research and we receive numerous inquiries each year, we cannot fulfill every Request a Donation submission. Each inquiry is carefully evaluated to ensure our support stays close to home and provides maximum local benefit.
Donation Request Guidelines
To ensure a fair and timely review process, please review the following criteria before submitting your application:
- Advance Notice: Submit your request at least 30 days prior to your event or deadline.
- Local Focus: Priority is given to verified non-profit organizations, schools, and community events located in the areas surrounding Hortons Home Lighting & Ace Hardware.
- Documentation: Organizations may be required to provide tax-exempt status verification (e.g., 501(c)(3) documentation).
- No Guarantees: Submitting a form does not guarantee funding or promotional sponsorship. Approvals depend on current budget availability, eligibility, and existing commitments.
- Frequency Limits: To support as many organizations as possible, we may limit the frequency or total value of donations granted to a single group within a given year.
- Online Submissions Only: All requests must be completed through our online portal. Requests made in person at our store, over the phone, or via individual staff members will be directed to this form.

- Event Overview: Name, date, venue, and estimated attendance of the event or fundraiser.
- Donation Request Details: Specific type or value of donation requested, date needed, and how the contribution will directly impact the community.
- Sponsorship Recognition: Details on how Hortons Home Lighting & Ace Hardware will be acknowledged (e.g., event signage, program logos, social media).
- Tax Status: Tax ID number or non-profit verification, if applicable.
