Take Your 4th of July Backyard Party from Drab to Fab

Jun 30th 2017 Staff

4th of July is the most patriotic holiday in the U.S. and that means that hosting this popular summer party must be outstanding. With these great decorating ideas, make your Independence Day Party bleed red, white and blue!

Table Centerpiece
There are so many fun ways to spruce up backyard party decorating, with table centerpieces being one of the easiest. Turn your gathering area into a fun display to reflect the patriotic spirit. Consider taking a simple white flower vase and creating a bouquet of red and blue Tootsie Pops.

Another great way to dress up your table setting with red, white, and blue is with old mason jars. Gather some red and blue glass paint and alternate stripes of red, clear glass, and blue over your mason jars. Once the paint has dried, place tealight candles inside your patriotic mason jar decorations and get back to celebrating the holiday. (Hint: Try citronella candles to keep mosquitos away!)

Save Room for Dessert
A simple way to make your patriotic decorations pop is with dessert arrangements. Of course, all typical 4th of July parties will include the go-to hot dogs and hamburgers for dinner, but what you serve for dessert will really show off this patriotic festivity.

Consider making red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and blue sprinkles. If you’re more of a chocolate person, upgrade your standard brownie with white frosting, strawberries, and blueberries arranged to look like the American flag.

Light Up the Night
Independence Day parties tend to last well into the evening so that guests can enjoy a beautiful firework display, make sure you are prepared for the moonlit hours with lighting to guide your guests. The tealight candle and mason jar centerpieces are sure to help your guests see where they are going in the dark, but they shouldn’t be the only light source that they rely on.

Consider hanging string lights from trees and fences and painting them alternating red, white, and blue colors with the leftover paint that you have from the mason jars. Also, update your sidewalk path lights to reflect the patriotic spirit of your gathering. Take thin red and blue colored paper and cut out stars and stripes. Then wrap the paper around your path light to create a red and blue glow in your backyard.
